If we do not want to clean and fire up the grill, but we want to enjoy some delicious and juicy steak at home easily, then grilling a steak in oven is the best and easiest to meet our stomach.
Here are some easy tips to help grill delicious and perfect steaks in oven. Take and enjoy.
CHOOSE THE BEST CUT OF STEAK FOR GRILLING IN THE OVEN
The steak we should choose is a well-marbled steak, such as ribeye or New York strip, because its marbling will add flavor and juiciness to the steak.
REST THE STEAK AT ROOM TEMPERATURE
Once we get the right steak, please do not rush to grill yet. Please rest the steak under the room temperature for about 30 minutes before we put it in the oven, so we can make sure that the steak will be grilled evenly.
USE A KITCHEN TIMER TO MONITOR THE TIME
As for the whole process, we need to use a reliable kitchen timer or digital timer to monitor the time for steak resting, steak marinating and etc.
WHAT WE DO NOT RECOMMEND
we do not recommend to using our smart cellphone as the timer because it will offer endless distraction for its endless notifications and cellphone tasks, we neither suggest to use those mechanical timers for its big timing errors.
JIMUTO digital timer JDT-303 is highly recommended for its solid quality and super easy-to-use features:
countdown & count-up, 3 brightness modes, 3 volume levels, 4-inch LED display screen, mirror surface, eco-friendly materials;
SEASON OUR STEAK GENEROUSLY BEFORE GRILLING IT IN THE OVEN
Season our steak is a must step before we grill it in the oven, what is more, we need to season it generously with seas salt and pepper. If we like adding other flavor, we can add other seasonings such as garlic powder and onion powder.
CONTROLLING THE BEST INTERNAL TEMPERATURE OF GRILLING OUR STEAK IN THE OVEN IS EVERYTHING
We can say that the internal temperature of grilling is everything, which will decide if we suffering from under grilling or over grilling.
PREHEAT THE OVEN
Before we put our steak into the oven, we need to preheat our oven to 450°F (232°C) for medium-rare to medium doneness. For a 1-inch thick steak, cook for about 6-8 minutes for medium-rare, or 8-10 minutes for medium, flipping the steak halfway through.
CHECK THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE OF THE STEAK WHEN GRILLING
When grilling, we need to use a reliable instant read food thermometer to check if the internal temperature of our steak grilling reaches its best level:
The best internal temperature to grill steaks in the oven:
- An internal temperature of 130-135°F (54-57°C) for medium-rare;
- An internal temperature of 135-145°F (57-63°C) for medium;
WHAT INSTANT READ THERMOMETER WE SHOULD USE FOR GRILLING STEAKS IN THE OVEN
Please pay attention that we need to check if its internal temperature rather than its surface grilling temperature, so those non-contact infrared thermometers cannot be used for the internal grilling temperature checking.
JIMUTO instant read thermometer IRT-10 is highly recommended for its solid quality and super easy-to-use features:
arc design, fast & accurate temp reading, out of box, large LED display & easy temp reading, lock reading temp, max & min records, calibration, 2 placing methods, IPX7, eco-friendly, bottle opener.
GRILL PAN OR REGULAR BAKING SHEET TO GRILL STEAKS IN THE OVEN
We can use either a grill pan or a regular baking sheet to grill out steak in the oven, so just choose the one you prefer.
A grill pan will give us those coveted grill marks, while a regular baking sheet will still produce a deliciously seared steak for us.
REST THE GRILLED STEAK BEFORE SERVE
When done grilling, we need to rest the steak for about five minutes before slicing it, so we can lock its juice inside.
