Against Illegal Leather Products and Activities
JIMUTO is against illegal leather products and activities
At JIMUTO we believe craftsmanship and quality must never come at the cost of the planet, wildlife, or human dignity. As a responsible brand, we categorically oppose leather products and practices that are illegal, unethical, or environmentally destructive. We call on customers, partners, and the wider community to join us in rejecting any leather activity that violates laws, endangers species, or causes unnecessary suffering.
What we boycott
JIMUTO will never source, sell, or support leather that falls into any of the following categories:
- Leather from endangered wild species, including any skins derived from animals protected under international or national law (for example, wild leopard, rhino, or protected crocodilian species).
- Leather produced through cruel practices — processes that intentionally inflict unnecessary suffering on animals.
- Hides obtained through illegal poaching or smuggling, or any material whose chain of custody is unclear or unverifiable.
- Products whose tanning or finishing processes cause severe pollution or create unsafe working conditions for people in supply chains.
Why this matters
Illegal and unethical leather sourcing destroys wildlife populations, harms local communities, and contaminates ecosystems. It undermines legal producers and honest businesses, and it can expose consumers to illegal goods and reputational risk. Protecting animals, workers, and the environment is part of being a responsible brand and a responsible consumer.
Our commitments
To make our stance meaningful, JIMUTO has adopted the following policies and practices:
- Strict supplier standards. We require suppliers to provide verifiable documentation for the origin of all hides and to comply with applicable laws and international agreements.
- No tolerance for protected species. We prohibit use of any material from species listed as legally protected or endangered.
- Traceability and auditing. We pursue traceability throughout our supply chain and conduct periodic checks and third-party audits where appropriate.
- Environment and worker safety. We favor tanning and finishing partners that minimize pollution, limit hazardous chemical use, and protect worker health — and we avoid partners whose processes are known to cause serious environmental harm.
- Transparency. We will be open about our sourcing policies and make available information about our ethical standards and compliance procedures.
How we verify and enforce
- Suppliers must sign our Code of Conduct and present verifiable documentation of hide origin and legal compliance.
- We conduct supplier reviews, request certificates where relevant, and reserve the right to suspend business with any partner that fails to meet our standards.
- When credible allegations of illegal or unethical activity arise, we investigate and cooperate fully with authorities and independent investigators.
What you can do
We encourage customers, partners, and the public to act with us:
- Choose verified materials. Prefer leather products from brands that publish sourcing policies, supply-chain information, or third-party audits.
- Ask questions. When buying leather, ask sellers about the origin, tanning method, and any certifications or traceability information.
- Report suspicious activity. If you suspect illegal poaching, smuggling, or hazardous tanning practices linked to leather products, report it to local authorities — and if you think it involves a JIMUTO product or partner, contact our compliance team (see below).
- Support sustainable alternatives. Where appropriate, choose responsibly tanned or certified materials and support innovations that reduce environmental impact.
Report concerns
If you have credible information about illegal leather sourcing or harmful production practices involving JIMUTO products or our supply chain, please contact our compliance team immediately:
- Email: service@jimuto.com
- Or submit a report via our website’s contact form with “Supply Chain / Ethics” as the subject.
We treat reports seriously and investigate all credible claims. If you prefer anonymity when reporting, indicate this and we will respect your request wherever possible.
Closing
Protecting wildlife, people, and the environment is not optional for us — it’s fundamental to our identity as a brand. JIMUTO stands firmly against illegal leather products and activities, and we invite everyone to join us in making ethical choices that preserve nature, protect workers, and ensure the long-term integrity of leather craftsmanship.
